Role of attractive interactions on Bose-Einstein condensation.

چکیده
The physical properties and stability of a trapped Bose{Einstein condensate are strongly innuenced by the presence of a net attractive interaction between the particles. In this Letter we describe the spatial distribution, stability, collisional loss rates, and lifetimes for this situation in a weakly interacting trapped atomic gas in the context of mean eld theory. The experimentally important case of 7 Li is discussed in some detail. We show how the condensate contracts and the mean eld becomes unstable as the number of atoms in the condensate are increased. We further show how the number of atoms is limited by the rapid increase in collisional loss rates associated with the contraction of the condensed atomic cloud.

Study on the Stabilization of Attractive Bose-einstein Condensates Using Projection Operator Method
We study the stability of Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with attractive twoand three-body interactions by analyzing the nonlinear, cubic quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation (CQGPE). By employing a projection operator method we discuss the stabilization of an attractive BEC by varying the strength of the trapping potential. Our analysis suggests that the reduction in strength of the external tr...
متن کاملBose-Einstein condensation of cesium.
Bose-Einstein condensation of cesium atoms is achieved by evaporative cooling using optical trapping techniques. The ability to tune the interactions between the ultracold atoms by an external magnetic field is crucial to obtain the condensate and offers intriguing features for potential applications. We explore various regimes of condensate self-interaction (attractive, repulsive, and null int...
متن کاملBose-Einstein condensation of diquark molecules in three-flavor quark matter
We study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter with three quark flavors at low and intermediate densities and non-zero temperatures in the framework of an NJL-type model with four-point interactions. At large densities, when the interactions are weak due to asymptotic freedom, quarks form loosely bound Cooper pairs. However, when the density decreases, interactions become stronger an...

متن کاملBright matter wave solitons in Bose–Einstein condensates
We review recent experimental and theoretical work on the creation of bright matter wave solitons in Bose–Einstein condensates. In two recent experiments, solitons are formed from Bose–Einstein condensates of 7Li by utilizing a Feshbach resonance to switch from repulsive to attractive interactions. The solitons are made to propagate in a one-dimensional potential formed by a focused laser beam....
متن کاملSimple criterion for the occurrence of Bose-Einstein condensation
We examine the occurrence of Bose-Einstein condensation in both nonrelativistic and relativistic systems with no self-interactions in a general setting. A simple condition for the occurrence of Bose-Einstein condensation can be given if we adopt generalized ζ-functions to define the quantum theory. We show that the crucial feature governing Bose-Einstein condensation is the dimension q associat...
